# English-speaking web design and marketing on the Costa Brava

At crida studio, based in Caldes de Malavella near the Costa Brava, we design websites and work on marketing and branding for businesses on the coast, in English, Catalan or Spanish. We also handle SEO, Google Ads and direct booking, with the season in mind. This page explains our approach and what to check on your Google Maps profile.

## A studio in Caldes de Malavella, close to the coast

We are based in Caldes de Malavella, in the Selva area, close to the southern Costa Brava. Our working area is the whole coast, from Blanes, Lloret de Mar and Tossa to Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Platja d’Aro, Palamós, Begur, L’Escala and Roses. We also work remotely with companies across Spain.

Meetings, proposals, website copy and campaigns can all be in English, Catalan or Spanish. That helps if you moved here from abroad and run a business on the coast, or if your customers come from other countries and need an English version written for them, using the words they actually search for.

The work can cover strategy, brand, web design on WordPress or as a custom build, SEO, Google Ads, AI assistants and automation. Every project starts with what the business sells, who buys it and which language they use when they search for it.

## Planning around high and low season

On the Costa Brava, the calendar sets the pace. The Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board’s occupancy report for 2025 counts 246,321 bed places in total across hotels, campsites, apartments and rural tourism, extra beds included. Bed places on offer, which leave out establishments fully or partly closed for the season, came to 144,127. Many businesses open, close or change pace with the summer.

That is why it makes sense to plan the big changes for the quieter months. A new website, photos, copy in three languages or a review of your Google profile all need time from the owner, and in July that time does not exist. In high season the job is answering enquiries, keeping track of bookings and adjusting Google Ads campaigns to the season.

### Can the project be run in English?

Yes. Meetings, proposals, documents, website copy and campaigns can all be in English, Catalan or Spanish. If part of your team prefers Catalan or Spanish, languages can be mixed within the same project.

## Customers who search in several languages

In 2025, more than half of the overnight stays in hotels, campsites, apartments and rural tourism on the Costa Brava were by guests from outside Spain. According to the Tourist Board, guests from Spain, Catalonia included, accounted for 41.9%. French guests made up 20%, Dutch guests 10.1%, German guests 7.2% and British guests 5.8%.

Each of them searches in their own language, on Google, on Maps or in an AI assistant. Residents from abroad do the same when they look for a restaurant, a builder or an estate agent. In the study we ran in 2026 on Girona accommodation websites, 402 of the 503 sites on the Costa Brava offered two or more languages.

### Does our website really need three languages?

It depends on who buys from you. In 2025, more than half of tourist overnight stays on the Costa Brava were by guests from abroad, so English is usually needed, while Catalan and Spanish reach local customers. Each version should be complete and have its own URL, rather than a translated menu over a page in another language.

## A website in three languages that Google can read

Google recommends a separate URL for each language, hreflang tags that connect the versions and a single language per page, without side-by-side translations. It advises against redirecting visitors automatically based on their language and suggests links so people can switch to the version they want.

Each version should be written for the person reading it. The English page should name what someone from abroad searches for, the Catalan and Spanish pages speak to local customers, and all three should share the same prices, services and contact details. It is worth building the website so another language, such as French, can be added later.

## Direct bookings without leaving the platforms

Booking platforms put you in front of a lot of people, but every booking through them pays a commission. In a factsheet from September 2026, the European Commission explains that businesses on Booking.com in the European Economic Area can now freely set their prices and conditions, including on their own website.

A website that sells directly needs a visible booking button on every page, an engine that works well on a phone, prices or a date search, and a quick way to ask questions, such as WhatsApp. The same applies to a restaurant table, a boat trip or a cooking class.

You do not need to leave the platforms. The aim is for your website to keep the bookings from people who already know you or come back every year, and to know which channel brings each booking. That way you know what each customer costs and where the effort pays off.

### Should we stop selling through booking platforms?

Usually not. Platforms bring guests who would not find you otherwise. The aim is for your website to take the bookings it can, especially from returning guests and people who already know your name, with a clear booking engine and visible prices. Prices on each channel are your decision, based on your own figures.

## Google Maps, where many customers find you first

Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. Verified profiles with complete details are more likely to appear, and more reviews and positive ratings can help a business rank locally. There is no way to pay for a better local position.

On the coast, a profile needs seasonal hours and special opening times, photos that show the place as it is, the right category and replies to reviews in the guest’s language. It is worth reviewing it alongside the website so both say the same thing.

### Do you only work with tourism businesses?

No. Tourism weighs heavily on the coast, but the same approach works for shops, restaurants, clinics, estate agents and companies that sell to other businesses. We start with who your customers are, where they search and in which language, and then decide what the website and campaigns need.

## How we work and projects you can review

We start with a conversation about the business, the customers and the season. Before any production starts, the proposal sets out the scope, budget and timing. Below you can see two international projects and a rural tourism project in the Baix Empordà.

For My Happy Retreats, a wellbeing brand for the Swiss market, we worked on the brand refresh, an accessible website, content architecture, SEO and SEM. Breath Coaching, also in Switzerland, and Can Junqué, a rural tourism business in the Baix Empordà, have their own case pages below.
