Where can you see if your site appears in AI Mode?
In Search Console, among the performance reports, you will find the Generative AI performance report (Search). It shows your site's impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google introduced it on 3 June 2026 and, as of 31 August 2026, has rolled it out to all websites worldwide.
If you cannot find it, Google's help page says this is usually because the site has not yet received enough impressions in these features, or because you have excluded it with the control described below. In the meantime, check the standard performance report, which already includes this data.
What does this report count, and what does it leave out?
It counts impressions. Google defines them as how many times links to your site were shown to a user in a generative AI feature on Google Search. You can break them down by page, country, date and device.
Impressions are the only metric. There are no clicks and no queries, and it does not split AI Overviews from AI Mode. You will know which pages appeared and how often, but not for which question or whether anyone visited your site.
Can I see which questions brought my site up in AI Mode?
Not yet. The report shows pages, countries, dates and devices, but not queries. Google says it is looking at adding more metrics over time. Until then, a manual test with real questions is the only way to see which questions bring you up and which sources are cited alongside you.
How to run a manual test with ten questions
Because the report does not tell you which questions brought up your site, test it yourself. Write ten questions the way a customer in Girona would ask when looking for someone to hire, in the languages your customers use, usually Catalan and Spanish, and ask them in AI Mode while signed out.
AI Mode is available in Spain and supports Catalan, Spanish and English, according to Google's help page. Run each question in regular Search too, to see whether an AI Overview appears. Note the date, whether your site is cited, which sources appear and with what wording. Repeat it every month.
- Which physiotherapist in Girona treats sports injuries?
- Who renovates kitchens in la Selva?
- Which accountant in Girona works with freelancers?
- Who produces 3D renders for a development on the Costa Brava?

If I cannot see the report in Search Console, does that mean I do not appear?
Not necessarily. According to Google's help page, the report may not appear if the site has not received enough impressions in these features, and it shows no data if you have excluded the site. These impressions are also counted in the standard performance report under the Web search type, so check pages and queries there.

Let's talkWhich sources does AI Mode cite for services in Girona?
On 30 October 2026 we asked AI Mode 30 unbranded questions, in Catalan, Spanish and English, about services businesses hire in Girona. Websites, branding, SEO, renders, video and automation. It is a small, one-day sample, but it shows what kind of sources get cited.
When the question named a place, it cited service pages that mentioned the town or county, Google Business Profiles, business directories run by public bodies and trade associations, and recently dated articles on the exact topic. For some questions it cited no company at all.
| Type of source | When it appeared |
|---|---|
| Service page naming the town or county | Questions with a town or county |
| Google Business Profile | ‘Who does X in Girona’ questions |
| Directory run by a county council or a trade association | Questions about small towns |
| Article dated the previous week | ‘How to’ and ‘how to choose’ questions |
| LinkedIn profile with a real name, or a YouTube video | ‘How to prepare’ questions |
If I exclude my site from generative AI, will my Google rankings drop?
Google says the control is not used as a ranking or inclusion signal affecting other parts of Search. What you lose are the impressions and clicks from AI Overviews and AI Mode. It does not affect AI training either. For that, Google points to Google-Extended.
Should you opt out of AI Mode?
For most small businesses, no. If you want to be found, opting out means giving up any impressions and clicks that come from AI Overviews and AI Mode, and Google says the control does not change your ranking elsewhere in Search. It only makes sense if your business depends on content you do not want summarised.
The control lives in Search Console under Settings and is called Search generative AI. It has three options. Include, which is the default, exclude, and inherit the setting from the parent property. If you exclude your site, the change usually takes effect within one or two days and the report stops showing data.
Does AI Mode work in Catalan?
Yes. Google's help page for AI Mode lists Catalan among the supported languages and Spain among the supported countries. That is why it is worth testing in both Catalan and Spanish. A customer in Girona may ask in either language, and the sources cited can change from one to the other.
What should you fix first so AI Mode cites you?
Google says there are no additional requirements and no special optimisations needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. A page has to be indexed and eligible to be shown in Search with a snippet. So the first job is the usual one. Pages that can be read, and that explain clearly what you do and where.
The test sets the order we would follow on a small site in Girona. None of these tasks requires rebuilding the website. Our guide on reviewing whether your company can be found and understood covers each layer and is the natural next step.
- One page per service that names the town or county you work in
- A verified Google Business Profile with the same name, address and phone number as the website
- A listing in the public business directories for your area
- Dated articles that answer specific customer questions, with a named author
