What Sartorius results say about bioprocess demand

Bioprocess demand is in good shape, according to the two Sartorius releases of 22 October 2026. Sartorius Stedim Biotech booked €2,289 million in sales over nine months, up 6.5% in constant currencies. Excluding tariff compensation paid to customers, operational growth came to 7.8%.

The group's Bioprocess Solutions division posted €2,213 million in sales, with operational growth of 8.1%. The company describes end markets as fundamentally healthy and customer activity as robust. If you sell to the same customers, that is a reason to plan 2027 with a little more confidence.

Consumables are still the engine of the business

The recurring consumables business was the main growth driver at Sartorius Stedim Biotech, and its CEO calls it the backbone of the business. A single-use consumable is used once, so a customer who has validated it in their process keeps ordering it.

For marketing, that means putting as much effort into keeping customers as into winning new ones. Clear pages for every part number help, along with easy reordering through your website or distributor, well-explained product change notices and quality documents such as lot certificates that buyers can find in seconds.

What do Sartorius 2026 results say about the bioprocessing market?

That demand is growing in every region. In the first nine months, Sartorius Stedim Biotech sold €2,289 million, up 6.5% in constant currencies, or 7.8% excluding tariff compensation. Consumables remain the main driver, and the bioprocess equipment business grew compared with the same period last year.

Bioprocess equipment is growing again

Sartorius Stedim Biotech's bioprocess equipment business grew year on year, and the group says demand for equipment and instruments continued to recover. That is good news for anyone building bioreactors, TFF systems or process skids. These are project purchases that usually go through a URS and several rounds of quotes.

If projects are coming back, buyers need to find you while they are still writing the URS. That calls for product pages with useful data, scale-up stories from lab to production, 3D renders that show the equipment in a cleanroom and an obvious way to request a quote or a demo.

Asia/Pacific is the fastest-growing region

Asia/Pacific grew 10.6% in constant currencies to €524 million, and Sartorius notes that China contributed positively. EMEA, the largest market at €982 million, rose 6.5%. The Americas grew 7.6% excluding tariff compensation and 3.9% including it.

Every region contributed. For a mid-sized supplier, the sensible reading is to keep Europe as the base and check whether your website, distributor network and English-language material are ready for Asian enquiries that come in through search, trade shows or global accounts.

Which region is growing fastest in bioprocessing according to Sartorius?

Asia/Pacific, up 10.6% in constant currencies to €524 million over nine months, with a positive contribution from China. EMEA remains the largest market at €982 million, up 6.5%. The Americas grew 7.6% excluding tariff compensation and 3.9% including it, because the compensation paid to customers is deducted from sales.

US tariffs and how to communicate pricing and terms

Sartorius Stedim Biotech received refunds of tariffs struck down by the US Supreme Court and is compensating customers for the surcharges they had paid. That lowers reported sales, but the company says the net effect on profitability is neutral. It also notes that changes in trade policy now play a bigger role.

If you sell into the United States, spell out in every quote who pays the duties, which Incoterm applies, how long the price is valid and what happens if the rules change. A terms page or a short FAQ written for procurement teams prevents misunderstandings.

Process intensification and advanced therapies as product messages

The new products Sartorius Stedim Biotech highlights are framed around what the customer gains. A single-use bioreactor bag with an improved sparger for better oxygen transfer is presented as a way to intensify upstream processing and get higher output from smaller bioreactor volumes.

For advanced therapies, the release mentions ready-to-use cytokines in closed sterile bags and a new animal-component-free cell culture medium. In your own marketing, lead with the outcome for the customer, such as more product from less volume or fewer open steps, and back it up with the spec sheet.

How should an equipment supplier explain tariffs to customers?

Clearly and in writing. Every quote should state who pays the duties, which Incoterm applies, how long the price holds and what happens if the rules change. Sartorius compensates its customers for surcharges they paid, but each company handles this its own way. What matters is that the buyer understands it before signing the order.

Trade shows and the 2027 marketing budget

Sartorius Stedim Biotech still expects sales growth of around 6 to 10% in constant currencies for 2026. In a market that is growing amid trade uncertainty, it makes sense to split the 2027 budget between existing customers, equipment projects and new markets, and to choose trade shows by the buyers who actually attend.
